The Nigerian Baptist Convention has urgently appealed to Bola Tinubu to intervene and put an end to the ongoing slaughter of Christians in the northern region of Nigeria.
The church expressed its deep concern over the continuous insecurity in the country and the relentless massacre of Christians in Plateau and other regions.
Despite their disappointment in the lack of effective solutions from security agencies over the years, the church still urged agencies to ensure the safety of all Nigerians and put an end to the senseless killings of Christians.
Caleb Mutfwang, the Governor of Plateau, confirmed on Monday that unknown gunmen had murdered at least 50 individuals in various communities in the Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas of the State.
Mutfwang, deeply troubled by the series of attacks and widespread destruction of farmlands and other properties by gunmen, committed to enforcing stringent measures to tackle the state’s insecurity.

In a press statement released in Abuja on Monday, signed by the convention’s Public Relations Officer, Rev. Eben Durodola, the Nigerian Baptist Convention denounced the random killings of Christians and the destruction of churches by unidentified militias in Bokkos.
The statement stated, “The militia killed about 50 people in NTV, Dares, Yelwa, and Chirang, where a Baptist church was set ablaze and nine members, including the church’s pastor, Solomon Gushe, were murdered. It was also reported that the rampaging militias killed 40 people in Chirang village”.
Rev. Israel Akanji, the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, expressed his grief over the killings and urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The spokesperson added, “Rev. Akanji asked President Bola Tinubu to urgently ensure the security of all Nigerians and halt the rampant killings of Christians in the northern part of the country”.
The convention is distressed by the ongoing slaughter of Christians in Plateau and other parts of the country and the country’s high level of insecurity over the past years without any significant solution from the security agencies.
“We urge all Christians to rise up and offer support to those who have lost their loved ones and those who were injured in the attack and are currently hospitalised,” he further added.
While praying for the country’s peace and security, especially for those at risk of militia attacks, the church called on security agencies to ensure the safety of every Nigerian and put a stop to the senseless killings of Christians.
