The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, emphasized the importance of preventing leaders from embezzling public funds in order to secure a better future for Nigeria’s younger generations.
He made the call during the presentation of an award to Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, at a colloquium and hall of awards event organized by the Edo Policy Round Table in collaboration with Mudiame University in Edo State.
He stated, “We have everything in this country except good leadership. We must stop those who are stealing our public funds. We must stop them from wasting our money. It is not their money.”

Obi expressed his concerns about the behavior of politicians, stating, “We politicians, when we are campaigning, everything is sweet and good, but once we have the opportunity, we will bring out our true side and start doing the opposite.”
He added, “God has given everything to Nigeria except good leadership that would have changed the nation for good.”
