A coalition of student bodies in Ogun State has issued a stern warning to Sunday Asefon, the Senior Special Adviser to Chief Bola Tinubu on Students’ Engagement, urging him to cancel his proposed visit to the state.
The student coalition hinted that Asefon’s presence could lead to disruptions of public peace, prompting potential protests by students.
The dissatisfaction stems from his alleged role in attempting to disqualify Governor Abiodun in the 2023 general elections.
The students cited unfounded allegations and protests against the governor as reasons for opposing Asefon’s visit.
In a statement signed by various student leaders, Asefon was declared persona non grata in Ogun State, emphasising their rejection of his visit based on perceived actions against the interests of Governor Abiodun.
The students specifically accused him of orchestrating the “Shawn Michael” saga, an incident aimed at disqualifying Governor Abiodun. They called for investigations by anti-graft agencies into the matter.
The statement highlighted verified information suggesting that Asefon played a key role in the controversy through his associate, Oladimeji Uthman, who urged anti-graft agencies to investigate the governor.

The statement partly read, “We received this information with total dismay and absolute rejection considering the role the said Asefon played in the build-up to the 2023 general election against the interest of Prince Dapo Abiodun, one out of several other reasons why Sunday Asefon had been declared persona non grata in Ogun State.
“Verified information shows that he was the brain behind the “Shawn Micheal “saga through his stooge one Oladimeji Uthman, a known scavenger, who called on anti-graft agencies to investigate Mr Governor,” the student group added.
