In a highly anticipated announcement, Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro, unveiled his formidable 23-man squad for the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. The announcement, made on Thursday, November 9, 2023, marked a milestone in the career of Bayer Leverkusen’s striker, Nathan Tella, who received his maiden call-up.
The roster is a blend of seasoned players and fresh talent, featuring goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, defenders Kenneth Omeruo and Olaoluwa Aina, midfielders Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka, and forward powerhouses Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Taiwo Awoniyi.
Adding to the firepower of the Super Eagles are Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen, Terem Moffi, and Ademola Lookman. Spain-based striker Sadiq Umar makes a triumphant return after a significant hiatus. Defender Jamilu Collins also rejoins the squad after recovering from a prolonged injury.

The Super Eagles are set to commence their journey to the 2026 World Cup with a face-off against Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo next week Thursday. This will be followed by a high-stakes encounter with Zimbabwe at the Huye Stadium in Butare, Rwanda on Monday, November 20. Interestingly, Zimbabwe has chosen Rwanda as their home ground for the qualifiers, as none of the stadiums in the southern African nation met the standards for hosting the FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
