Nigeria’s Super Eagles drew with Saudi Arabia in the international friendly on Friday. At the Estádio Municipal de Portimo, the Saudi Arabian team came dangerously close to pulling off an upset in the friendly match.
The Super Eagles controlled the first half of the game and had numerous opportunities to score but were unable to do so.
Despite numerous opportunities for the Nigerian squad, Salman Al-Faraj’s goal for Saudi Arabia in the 60th minute of the second half gave them the lead.
The Saudi Arabian national football squad, commanded by former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, battled to hold onto their narrow lead after conceding the first goal.
Abdulelah Al-Amri’s own goal in the 73rd minute to tie the game for Nigeria made matters worse for them. Kelechi Iheanacho gave the Super Eagles the game’s first lead in the 81st minute.
Unluckily for the Nigerian squad, Mohamed Kanno’s equalizer in the 100th minute prevented them from keeping their advantage till the game’s conclusion.
Saudi Arabia finished the game with 53 percent of possession and four shots, three of which found their intended goal. With 15 shots, five of which were on target, Nigeria had 47 percent of the ball possession in the friendly match, which finished in a 2-2 tie.
