Super Eagles of Nigeria on Monday before the 2026 World Cup qualifier match against Benin Republic were seen reciting the old national anthem, ‘Arise O’ Compatriot’ as opposed to the new anthem ‘ Nigeria We Hail Thee “.
The Eagles played the Squirrels of Benin in their fourth qualifier game on Monday at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

During the ceremonial rendition of the competing countries’ national anthem at the beginning of the game, the match organisers opted for Nigeria’s replaced anthem.
The players, however, were seen gleefully reciting the anthem’s tune.
Recall that Bola Tinubu on May 29, signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law.
The bill reinstated the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
