JUST IN: Supreme Court Upholds Bauchi Gov’s Election

The election victory of Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has been upheld by the Supreme Court.

Despite efforts by Sadique Abubakar, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state, to overturn Mohammed’s election at the two lower courts, his attempts were unsuccessful.

Abubakar had raised concerns about substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election at both lower courts.

However, his petition at the tribunal and subsequent appeal at the appellate court were dismissed for lack of merit. The courts ruled that he failed to substantiate his allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.

Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, in delivering the lead judgment on Friday, addressed all six issues raised by the appellant and concluded that the appeal lacked merit.
