Suspended UNICAL Law Dean Faces Criminal Charges for Sexual Harassment and Corruption

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed a criminal charge against Professor Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar (UNICAL), over his alleged sexual harassment and corruption of some of his students.

The commission said it concluded its investigation into the professor’s alleged gross misconducts and decided to arraign him on a four count charge before a court of competent jurisdiction.

According to the charge sheet, Professor Ndifon is accused of using his office and position as the Dean of the Faculty of Law, UNICAL, to solicit for nude photographs and videos from one Ms. ABC (not real name), a year 2 diploma student of the university, through WhatsApp chats on his telephone number 0803***. He is also accused of abusing his responsibility for the certification of students as fit in learning and character as a prerequisite for the award of Bachelor’s degree in law and admission into the Nigeria Law School.

The charge sheet stated that the offences are contrary to and punishable under sections 8, 18 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

The commission said it would arraign Professor Ndifon in court on a date to be given by the court.

It would be recalled that ICPC, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), had arrested Professor Ndifon in Calabar, Cross River State on October 4, 2023 after he ignored several invitations from the commission.
