T-shirts featuring a viral fist-pumping moment of former U.S. President Donald Trump, taken shortly after he survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania, have flooded Chinese markets.
These shirts are listed for sale on e-commerce websites for ¥68 ($10).
The incident occurred when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired multiple rounds towards the 78-year-old Trump during a rally in Butler County on Saturday evening.
His “upper right ear was pierced by a gun bullet.” He immediately took cover before the pulpit and, while being hauled away by U.S. Secret Service agents, pumped his fist and urged attendees to “fight.” This moment has since gone viral.
The gunman, positioned on the rooftop of a nearby building, was neutralized by Secret Service agents.
The incident quickly became a trending topic on Chinese social media, with a report by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV gaining over 230 million views within 90 minutes on Weibo.
The Chinese market capitalized on the moment by printing T-shirts with the fist-pumping photo and listing them online. The merchandise listings have gained significant traction on social media, with many expressing support for Trump, the Republican nominee for the upcoming November presidential election.
This is not the first time Trump-related merchandise has gone viral. T-shirts featuring his mugshot sold out quickly following his indictment on racketeering charges in Fulton County, Georgia.
