I Will Never Advice My Son to Set Foot in Nigeria—Taribo West Laments Neglect of Late Nigerian Goalkeeper Peter Rufai by NFF, Lagos Govt

Taribo West, a former Super Eagles defender, has decried the neglect suffered by the late national team goalkeeper Peter Rufai and his family, which he said contributed to Rufai’s death.

In expression of his bitterness about the sad incident, he has vowed not to allow his son step foot in Nigeria.

West made this statement while speaking at Rufai’s service of songs in Lagos on Thursday.

Recall that on In July 3, Rufai passed away at the age of 61. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that the legendary Eagles goalkeeper died after battling sickness for “some weeks.

At the service of song, West stated the Rufai ‘s family where abandoned by the Lagos government and the NFF despite seeking financial assistance for the cure of Rufai ‘s sickness.

He maintained , that as an individual there is nothing worth putting your life on the line especially for a country that does not care for it citizens.

His words,”For me, it’s disheartening that you have Lagos state, you have Nigeria Football Association yet they dropped the buckle on the family.

“I felt in my spirit, there’s nothing to put your life for, that’s why I said I have to shift back so I will not implode. It’s grieving. What kind of nation is this?

He stated that with the example Nigeria had shown in the dead heros of sports, Stephen Kesh, Thompson, Rashidi, he will never advise his son to come to Nigeria.

“With the example they have shown in Shofoluwe, Stephen Keshi, blessed memory, Thompson Oliha, blessed memory, Rashidi Yekini, I will never advise even my son to put his feet for this country.

“Do we have a football association in this country or a federation in this Lagos state that this hero, soldier, football evangelist has to be treated this way and his family.

“Could you imagine that the family would be crying to solicit within our groups, just to ask for money? It is madness,” he concluded.
