A viral video has stirred public outrage after reportedly showing terrorists arriving on motorcycles for a peace meeting in parts of Katsina State.
The footage shared by X user D English Alhaji and reposted by @ChuksEricE captured several suspected bandits riding into the venue of a supposed peace parley involving communities in Kankia, Kusada, Ingawa, and Charanchi Local Government Areas.
The incident has intensified concerns about the government’s approach to security negotiations in the North-West.
Public reactions to the footage have been swift and intense. Many Nigerians questioned why armed groups continue to move freely while government officials insist that insecurity is under control.
X user @jacoral criticised the Katsina government’s handling of the situation, saying the video contradicts recent claims that the state is safe.
“The Katsina governor just went on a podcast denying insecurity in the state, yet there are videos of bandits casually showing up for ‘peace meetings.’ It’s sad how they keep negotiating with terrorists who, in return, unleash more havoc on innocent citizens. This cycle is embarrassing and dangerous,” he said.
Another user, @JoeJeffz, accused the government of enabling the crisis through its negotiation strategy.
“This is how these terrorists have a free playing ground to continue the genocide in Nigeria. This has to stop, and the government is even aiding them in the name of rehabilitation and peace deals.”
Security analysts have long cautioned that peace deals with armed groups often fail, noting that previous agreements in the region were repeatedly violated.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Katsina State have yet to comment on the meeting or the identities of those in attendance.
