Barely forty-eight hours after the deadly Kasuwar Daji market massacre, a police checkpoint in New Kalli, Wawa Ward of Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State has been attacked by armed terrorists.
According to reports, the assailants, who reportedly rode motorcycles, attacked the checkpoint, setting parts of the facility on fire and looting officers’ belongings.

Reports have it that during the attack, officers’ accommodation was burnt, farm produce destroyed and some personal items carted away, although no casualties were recorded.
Pictures obtained by newsmen also show the building riddled with bullets, with some residents holding spent cartridges.
The Borgu Local Government Disaster Officer, Musa Saidu, confirmed to journalists on Monday that the location was a Mobile Police (MOPOL) checkpoint in New Kalli.

However, the Niger State Police Command described the facility as a border patrol post, explaining that it serves as a security nipping point along the Borgu axis.
Confirming the incident to journalists on Monday, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said, “On 4th Jan, 2026 at about 10.30pm, suspected bandits attacked the Police border patrol nipping point located at Kale village via Borgu LGA.”

He explained that security operatives resisted the attackers, adding, “The hoodlums were engaged in a fierce gun battle and they were repelled by the police team.”
“However, the security post was engulfed in fire during the gun battle, normalcy was later restored while reinforcement was emplaced,” he added.
The attack followed the Kasuwar Daji market incident in the same local government area, which left about many dead, with scores, including children and elderly women, abducted.
