Terrorists Attack Niger-Benin Pipeline, Set Fire to Infrastructure in Konni

Terrorists group have attacked the Niger-Benin pipeline on Friday evening near Mountseka in Konni Department, setting parts of the infrastructure ablaze.

According to a tweet shared online by Zagazola Makama, the incident, which occurred shortly after the breaking of the fast, sent massive flames into the sky, as captured in shocking footage filmed by local villagers.

However, the attack raises fresh concerns over the security of the multi-billion-dollar project, which has long been considered a strategic asset for Niger’s economy.

The assault comes amid escalating violence in the region, including the massacre of civilians in Fambita allegedly carried out by elements of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS).

The inability to prevent such attacks has drawn criticism of the ruling junta, led by General Abdourahamane Tiani, and the military’s handling of security challenges.
