At least 15 people killed by a newly formed jihadist group known as “Lakurawa” have been buried in Kebbi State.
Kebbi State Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida and the Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, attended the funeral prayers on Friday afternoon in Mera, Kebbi State.
Parallel Facts reported on November 6, 2024, that this new jihadist group, “Lakurawa,” recently emerged and has been imposing taxes and levies on communities in Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.
The group has reportedly established bases in affected areas, moving from one community to another and preaching against Western civilization and democracy, similar to the ideology of Boko Haram.
On Friday, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters officially confirmed the presence of “Lakurawa” in the northwestern states of Sokoto and Kebbi, noting that the group’s activities have worsened the security challenges in the Northwest region.

On Friday afternoon, terrorists reportedly attacked the town of Mera in Kebbi State, rustling a large number of cattle.
However, locals confronted the attackers, leading to casualties on both sides.
Kebbi State police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, there was a terrorist attack on Mera yesterday (Friday) resulting in 15 deaths.”
“As of now we are yet to ascertain the identity of the attackers. It’s too early to confirm whether the attackers were from the Lakurawa’ group or not,” he added.
