Terrorists have attacked communities in Wanke, near Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, kidnapping around 100 residents, including a Chief Imam.
According to a source, “This is the second time the Imam was abducted.”
The state government and police have not yet responded to the incident.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, a survivor described the affected communities as being under siege, with residents fleeing in fear of further attacks.
He reported that near Sabon Layi, more than 50 people were taken, while around Dagon Hayi, another 50 were abducted.
He shared that they were still accounting for those missing, noting that many locals were terrified and had fled to safety.
The survivor recounted a disturbing scene, saying the attackers pursued people as though they were hunting animals.
According to him, the bandits chased people on motorbikes, tracking women to their homes and abducting them.
Others were intercepted while attempting to escape and were herded into the bush like livestock.
“These terrorists attacked Gira, Ruwa Kusa, Dogon Hayi and Gidan Kado communities, where they stole motorcycles, farm produce and phones. They burgled shops and stole provisions,” the source disclosed.
According to the source, officials at Wanke were notified, but no action was taken.
Attempts to obtain a response from the police regarding the incidents were unsuccessful.
