Insecurity: Terrorists Kidnap 55 Wedding Guests, Kill Four in Katsina State

Group of Terrorists

A group of armed terrorists attacked and kidnapped about 55 wedding guests who were escorting a bride home in Katsina State on Saturday.

The incident occurred along Damari town in the Sabuwa Local Government Area of the state, where the terrorists ambushed the wedding convoy and opened fire.

According to reports, three local security volunteers and a motorcycle rider were killed in the attack, while several others sustained injuries.

Most of the victims were friends of the bride, who were traveling in an open van called canter vehicle. Some of them managed to escape by jumping off the moving vehicle when the terrorists hijacked it.

The bride and the groom were reportedly not among the abducted, as they were traveling in a separate car.

The kidnappers have not yet contacted the families of the victims or made any ransom demands.

The attack is the latest in a series of kidnappings and violent crimes that have plagued Nigeria in recent times.

According to data from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED), over 380 people were kidnapped across Nigeria between December 1, 2023, and January 3, 2024.

Nigeria is also facing multiple security challenges, including jihadist insurgencies, communal clashes, and banditry, that have claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions of people.

Experts have linked the surge of insecurity to the staggering poverty, unemployment, corruption, and weak governance in the country.

Bola Tinubu, who came to power in 2023, has promised to restore peace and security in the country, but many Nigerians are losing faith in his ability to do so.
