Suspected armed terrorists have struck on the Ifon/Owo road in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaving two dead and several passengers kidnapped, including National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
The incident occurred as travelers, including NYSC members returning home from Anambra, were passing through the notorious “Omi Alafa village” on Friday.
According to reports, these terrorists intercepted a Toyota Sienna space bus en route to Owo, Ondo State, and abducted multiple passengers after a violent altercation.
Among the kidnapped victims is Adewole Paul Oluwaseun, a corps member who was returning from NYSC camp in Enugu.
One Seun Ogunmola, a community source, lamented the targeted attack, stating that the assailants struck during the journey, resulting in casualties and the abduction of several individuals.
Edward Lawal, whose brother was among those taken, disclosed that the bandits have demanded a ransom of N3 million for the safe release of the captives.
He recounted the harrowing ordeal where the driver and a passenger were injured by gunfire while attempting to evade the attackers.
Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident and reported that the deceased victims have been taken to the morgue in Ifon.
She assured that security agencies have mobilized efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims, although the exact number of those abducted is yet to be confirmed.
The Ifon/Owo road has increasingly become a danger zone for motorists and travelers, particularly those journeying from the Eastern part of the country to Ondo State.
Reports indicate that multiple cases of kidnapping and attacks have been documented on this route between January and July, underscoring growing concerns among commuters and residents alike.
