Terrorists dubbed “Bandits” have allegedly taken control of the military training camp at the Nagwamase cantonment in Kontagora, Niger State, forcing the displacement of around 23 nearby communities.
This camp is known as one of Nigeria’s largest military training facilities.
A motion of urgent public importance, presented by Abdullahi Isah, the representative for Kontagora II in the state House of Assembly, emphasized that the camp spans a large area extending into parts of Mariga local government, which has also been severely impacted by banditry.
Isah reported that the camp has turned into a hub for at least eight separate camps set up by bandits.
In a recent plenary session, Isah voiced serious concerns over the worsening security situation affecting communities within and around the training camp, pointing to a rise in attacks over the past month. He added that some residents abducted during recent raids are still being held captive.

The assembly has called on the state government to work with military authorities to drive the bandits out of the camp and restore security in the area. Assembly members also emphasized the need for increased support for the military, including modern equipment and logistical resources, to effectively combat the armed groups active in the region.
Residents from the affected communities, mainly farmers, have been forced to abandon their homes and farmlands due to the violence, worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region.
