On Friday, gunmen suspected to be terrorists stormed a mosque during Friday prayers in Anguwar Makera, Kwasakwasa Community, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing two worshippers.
A community resident confirmed the attack, mentioning that it took place around 2 pm on Friday.
As reported by Daily Trust, Hudu Kwasakwasa, a village leader, affirmed the incident, stating that the bandits initiated gunfire towards the worshippers.
“The two worshipers killed were among other Muslims attacked at the Juma’at Mosque in Angwar Makera when the bandits opened fire on them and abducted others today (Friday). The victims have been buried at Old Kuyello cemetery,” he narrated.
He stated that during the second raka’at of the salat, assailants attacked, compelling survivors to flee for safety.
Additionally, he reported that the same group of bandits had kidnapped approximately nine individuals a few days prior in Angwar Kanawa, situated within the Kwasakwasa vicinity.
He appealed to the relevant authorities for assistance, asserting that the bandits were wreaking havoc on the communities without resistance.
This occurred just 24 hours following the abduction of over 287 students in the neighboring Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
As of now, neither the state government nor the police command has responded to the mosque incident.
Attempts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, have been unsuccessful, as he could not be reached via phone and has not responded to a text message seeking clarification.
