The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) has officially opened a state-of-the-art Central Library Complex at Bauchi State University, Gadau, with a total cost of N1 billion and a capacity to accommodate 2,000 individuals.
During the inauguration ceremony held on Friday, Sonny Echono, the executive secretary of TETFUND, revealed that the project received approval as part of the 2017-2019 merged annual intervention initiative.
Represented by Olajide Babatunde, the director of monitoring and evaluation at TETFUND, Echono noted that the university had previously benefited from the fund’s interventions in 2012.
“Since 2012, the organization has allocated a substantial sum of N17.3 billion exclusively for infrastructure-related interventions. These funds have been utilized with remarkable efficiency, contributing to the development of essential facilities across various sections of the campus,” stated the executive secretary, highlighting that nearly 97% of the allocated funds had already been accessed.

Echono affirmed TETFUND’s commitment to sustaining and enhancing interventions to empower government-owned tertiary institutions to undertake impactful projects and enhance their global competitiveness.
Aliyu Misau, a member of the House Committee on TETFUND, provided additional insights into the fund’s contributions, disclosing that TETFUND had sponsored 100 lecturers for PhD programs in both foreign and local institutions at a cost of N955 million.
Furthermore, 143 lecturers were supported in pursuing Master’s Degrees in foreign and local institutions, with an expenditure of N359 million.
Expressing gratitude, the vice-chancellor of Bauchi State University, Fatima Tahir, commended TETFUND for its crucial role in making the library project a reality.
She emphasized the fund’s consistent financial and logistical support, acknowledging the significant impact on the university’s ability to provide exceptional learning experiences for students.
