‘North Is Bleeding’, Islamic Scholar Fumes Over Kaduna Bombing

North

Sokoto-based Islamic scholar Sheikh Muhammad Bello Yabo has voiced his anguish over the recurring bombings in Northern Nigeria, particularly highlighting the tragic incident during the Maulud celebration at Tudun Biri village in Kaduna.

Sheikh Yabo lamented that such bombings have predominantly occurred in the North, with no similar incidents reported in the Southern region.

The scholar expressed his frustration, stating, “The North is bleeding. We are being killed by bandits, hunger, and even the military, who are meant to protect us, are inadvertently causing us harm. This is unbearable. We have no one to turn to but Allah, and we pray for His mercy and protection.”

Sheikh Yabo also addressed the issue of disunity among Northern leaders, which he believes is contributing to the persistence of such tragedies.

He criticised the continuous detention of Tukur Mamu, a Kaduna-based publisher known for facilitating negotiations between terrorists and the families of abducted Kaduna-Abuja train passengers last year.

Sheikh Yabo compared Mamu’s case to that of Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba Nation agitator, who was released from detention in Benin Republic after intervention from his community.

The scholar’s remarks underscored the perceived disparity in treatment and called for Northern leaders to unite and advocate for their people.

“The detention of Tukur Mamu is a clear injustice. We know him better than anyone, as he is our brother. It’s time for us to come together, put aside our envy, and urge the military to minimize the loss of innocent lives in the North,” Sheikh Yabo implored.

The plea for unity and justice resonates deeply as the region grapples with the aftermath of these bombings and the broader implications for peace and security in Northern Nigeria.
