Peter Obi, the Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, has criticized the Bola Tinubu-led government over the collapsing healthcare system, describing it as dangerously inadequate.
He said the lack of basic medical infrastructure has turned the country into a place where even common snakebites can be fatal.
Obi made the remarks during a campaign rally at AMAC market in Abuja on February 3, 2026, telling market traders that hospitals are ineffective and essential medicines are unavailable.

“If today you are sick, there is no proper healthcare to go. If a common snake bites you, you are dead,” he said, highlighting the absence of anti-venom nationwide.
The former presidential candidate said this situation is a result of mismanagement of public funds by the current administration and called for a leadership that prioritizes healthcare for all Nigerians.
He pledged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under Dr. Moses Paul, would focus on improving medical services and ensuring accessibility of critical health resources.
Obi urged Nigerians to participate actively in the upcoming AMAC elections as a step toward reversing the healthcare crisis.
“We want proper healthcare. We want to pull people out of poverty. This is what we must change,” he told the crowd, appealing for support to transform the nation’s health sector.
