There’s Nothing Wrong With One-Party State for Effective Governance If Nigerians Want it – Ganduje

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Friday stated that the party is not aiming to establish a one-party state.

However, he remarked that the wave of defections from other political parties to the APC could be seen as a positive sign if it reflects the will of the people.

Ganduje made the comments while speaking to State House Correspondents following a meeting with Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

He downplayed concerns about a potential one-party system, saying, “We are not deliberately pursuing a one-party state, but if that’s what Nigerians want, we have no objections. As the saying goes, too many cooks spoil the broth; similarly, too many political parties can hinder effective governance.”

Ganduje was accompanied to the meeting by Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, and Senators Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki.

He revealed that key political discussions had taken place among major stakeholders in Kebbi State, resulting in an agreement that the three PDP senators from the state would soon join the APC.

Mr Ganduje stated, “This is a good development, and it is in consonance with what is happening in Nigeria today. Almost every week in the Senate and House of Representatives, you see members of other political parties defecting to our party. So, we came here so that Mr President will bless this resolution, and he has graciously given his blessing, and by Tuesday you will see what will happen in the Red Chambers. Our constitution is very clear about this, and with our political dexterity in managing such affairs, I assure you that there will be a smooth integration.’’

Mr. Ganduje stated that the move was a continuation of Mr. Tinubu’s initiative, emphasizing, “The APC must take democratic steps to grow not only our numbers but also the quality and strength of our supporters.”
