Three Dead as BRT Collide with Motorcycles in Lagos

Three people on two commercial motorcycles were tragically killed in an accident involving a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle in the Alakija neighbourhood of Lagos. According to reports, the victims were involved in a ghastly accident with the BRT bus as it travelled from Mile 2 to Okoko in the state’s Ojo region.

After a football game in Navy Town, Ojo, the victims were returning home when their motorcycles collided with the bus. The event resulted in a mob of youngsters besieging the BRT vehicle with the intention of setting the bus on fire. But the Nigerian police officers from FESTAC Police Station, under the command of Divisional Police Officer Balogun Gboyega were able to arrest the situation and restored normalcy.

One of the motorbike riders’ remains was reportedly removed by family members, while three others were transported to the FESTAC Police Station. According to reports, the police saved the BRT driver from being lynched by the mob.

With the start of BRT bus operations on the route, the Lagos state government has outlawed riding motorcycles on the BRT road from Okokomaiko to Mile 2. The incidence has been reported to newsmen by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police.
