Three Nigerian Students Arrested for Marijuana Possession in Northern Cyprus

Three Nigerian students have been arrested in Northern Cyprus for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

The incident occurred in the capital city of Lefkosia, as police units had to forcefully arrest one of the suspects who tried to escape.

The police found 5,000 Turkish lira (167 US dollars) at the apartment of one of the suspects, and 29 packages of drugs weighing approximately 30 grams, ready for sale, were also found.

The police stated that a search was subsequently carried out in the apartment of two other suspects who stayed together

During the search, 2 kilograms of drug and three sensitive scales believed to have drug residue were found and taken as evidence.

Police stated that the investigation was continuing, adding that the suspects gave voluntary statements, the seized substances would be sent for analysis, and that two people were wanted and requested a detention period of 3 days.

Marijuana is considered an illegal substance in Northern Cyprus, either for recreation or for retail purposes.
