“Thugs Asking Us to Pay Them Before They Allow Us to Clean Lagos Streets” — Volunteer Cries Out

A volunteer participating in a community clean-up initiative in Lagos State has accused local touts of demanding payment before allowing the group to carry out sanitation activities in the area.

In a video shared on social media, the man—part of a team reportedly mobilised by social advocate VeryDarkMan’s supporters—said they were being obstructed by individuals insisting on “settlement” before granting them access to clean the streets.

The footage shows volunteers in reflective vests working in a busy Lagos neighbourhood as the man voices his frustration over the alleged harassment.

He appealed to authorities to intervene, stressing that the clean-up exercise was aimed at improving sanitation in the state and should not be hindered by extortion.

More details are expected as reactions continue to trail the incident online.
