Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of nine new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), his media aide announced on Wednesday.
The constitution and electoral law specify that the new RECs will each hold office for a term of five years, subject to Senate confirmation.
The presidential special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said in a statement that Mr. Tinubu made the appointments in the exercise of his constitutional and statutory powers.
The statement listed the names and states of the new appointees as follows:
Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakhe—Edo State
Mr. Bamidele Agbede, Ekiti State
Mr. Jani Adamu Bello, Gombe State
Dr. Taiye Ilayasu, Kwara State
Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, Lagos State
Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Nasarawa State
Prof. Mohammed Yalwa, Niger State
Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, Rivers State
Mr. Abubakar Fawa Dambo, Zamfara State
The statement also quoted Mr Tinubu urging the new RECs to discharge their duties with professionalism and ethical conduct, adding that he was committed to ensuring transparent, fair, and conflict-free elections in Nigeria.
