Tinubu Dribbles Kwara Victims, Jets to Plateau for APC Chairman’s Mother’s Funeral

Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday sparked outrage after he flew to Plateau State for the funeral of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, while ignoring grieving families in Kwara who continue to face relentless terrorist attacks.

Tinubu, accompanied by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, joined dignitaries at the Church of Christ in Nations headquarters in Jos, where the burial service took place.

Mama Lydia, who passed away in August at the age of 83, was described by Tinubu as “a mother of the community, a mother of the state, and a humanitarian.”

In his tribute, the President praised the APC Chairman as “a man of character and intellect,” saying the massive turnout of public officials was proof of the family’s high standing.

But many Nigerians have accused Tinubu of insensitivity, questioning why a leader would prioritise a party leader’s family ceremony while remaining silent on recent terrorist attacks that claimed dozens of lives in Kwara.

Critics say his absence reinforces the perception that political interests take precedence over national tragedies.

The President’s visit also drew backlash from social media users, who questioned whether his priorities lie with party loyalists rather than mourning Nigerians.

One X user, @OfficiaEdoOsasB, wrote: “When Bokkos was bleeding, we didn’t see him in Plateau State. Attending the burial ceremony of a politician’s relative is more important.”

Another user, @trigottista, added: “He hasn’t visited his fellow Yorubas in Kwara.”

Similarly, @jindu7 commented: “Please remind me when President Tinubu visited Plateau State to commiserate with them for the massacre of their citizens by the Islamic bandits.”

The backlash has reignited debate about the President’s priorities, with many Nigerians demanding more empathy and accountability from their leaders in moments of grief.
