Despite Long Fuel Queues, Returnee Petroleum Minister Tinubu Flees Back to France After Swearing In New Chief Justice

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to return to France today, Friday, August 23, after a brief return to Nigeria to swear in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Kekere-Ekun, who took her oath of office at approximately 11:38 AM, is the second female CJN in Nigeria’s history, following Aloma Mariam Mukhtar who served from July 2012 to November 2014.

The inauguration ceremony, held in the council chambers, was witnessed by several dignitaries, including Supreme Court justices, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives leadership led by Julius Ihonbvere, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu.

Others in attendance were Olukayode Ariwoola, the immediate past CJN, George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA), Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, and Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation.

A source within the presidency confirmed that Tinubu is expected to return to France “any moment from now” to continue his work stay in the country, despite ongoing fuel shortages causing long queues in Nigeria.
