Political analyst and former national chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Peter Ameh, has claimed that Bola Tinubu’s administration is more apprehensive about a potential 2027 presidential challenge from Peter Obi than from Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Mic On podcast, Ameh asserted that the frequency with which government officials and ruling party spokespersons mention Peter Obi’s name is a clear indication of unease within the All Progressives Congress (APC) camp.
“You don’t mention someone you are not afraid of every day,” Ameh said. “They talk about Peter Obi more than they talk about Atiku.
That tells you who keeps them awake at night.
”The analyst pointed to the 2023 presidential election, where Obi, running on the Labour Party platform, secured over 6.1 million votes and won outright in 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory despite what he described as “systematic suppression” by the political establishment.
A short clip of Ameh’s remarks, posted on X by popular commentator @dammiedammie35, quickly went viral, amassing hundreds of thousands of views and sparking intense debate among Nigerians still polarised by the 2023 contest.
While some users hailed the statement as evidence of Obi’s enduring influence, others dismissed it as opposition propaganda and urged Nigerians to focus on governance rather than early 2027 campaigns.

Neither the presidency nor the APC has officially responded to Ameh’s claims as of press time.
