The Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, of Tinubu’s Govt has disclosed plans to establish a National Museum and a National Theatre within an envisioned creative city in Abuja.

This announcement came during the presentation of the 2024 Appropriation Budget draft to the Senate Committee on Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy at the National Assembly.

The proposed projects are identified as crucial focal points for the ministry, aiming not only to foster creativity but also to generate employment opportunities for both creatives and the wider Nigerian population.

Musawa emphasized that the realization of these projects is contingent upon the Senate’s approval of the 2024 appropriation budget.

Aligning the ministry’s goals with Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s Renewed Hope Agenda, Minister Musawa expressed intentions to contribute a substantial N100 billion to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030.

She underscored the pivotal role of the Creative Economy, citing its significance in attracting foreign investment and cultural promotion, as well as its mandate for preservation as outlined in Section 21 of the 1999 Constitution.

“We have set high key performance indicators for the ministry, and we are ready to hit the aspirational targets we have set for ourselves.

”This is a new ministry that is also trying to create jobs and establish an intellectual property framework that will harness the culture and creativity of Nigeria. This, therefore, will require adequate financial provision,” Minister Musawa stated confidently.
