Contrary to earlier reports that the Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu led federal government had approved an increase in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members’ monthly allowance to ₦77,000, the government has continued to pay ₦33,000.
The alleged salary hike was expected to take effect from July 2024, following the signing of the new minimum wage bill by Bola Tinubu in late July.
The bill, which raised the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000, was anticipated to reflect in the allowances of NYSC members.
However, Parallel Facts recently discovered that September allowance to corps members show no change, still remain the N33,0000. The situation has sparked widespread disappointment.
The signing of the minimum wage bill was initially celebrated as a major step to alleviate financial burdens for workers, but the promised increase for NYSC members has yet to materialize.
