Bola Tinubu-led administration has come under fire on X (formerly Twitter) for using the official handle of the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to campaign for a candidate in the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
The candidate in question is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress Senator Monday Okpebholo.
In a post shared on Saturday night, and accompanied by images of a statement from Kashim Shettima, the account wrote: “Vote Okpebholo to birth a functional State.”
“Kashim Shettima urges Edo citizens Says state will benefit from positive change with increased federal allocation.”
But many Nigerians on the social media platform have taken a swipe at the use of the official account of the Nigerian presidency for campaigning purposes.

Human Right activist and Lawyer Inibehe Effiong while reacting to the post said, “This is despicable but not surprising, the APC has rubbished every institution in this country. Using official government handle for partisan campaigns is egregious. State capture in full force”.
However, Section 15(5) of the constitution mandates the state to abolish all forms of corrupt practices and abuse of power. Using govt institutions for partisan purposes, as such is an abuse of power and the government. While despicable, it’s not truly surprising of the APC.
