Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has launched a viral critique of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a product of Nigeria’s systemic failures.
In a post on X, Farotimi wrote: “Tinubu is what happens when a country has failed its people. Tempting as it is to blame Tinubu for Nigeria’s woes, the truth is that he is himself a victim of Nigeria, a fruit of the evil empire that we have built, and at best, the sum of its many putrid parts. May Nigeria not happen to me and you. Amen.”

His post quickly went viral, with likes, retweets, and comments from netizens. Many users argued that Tinubu’s rise reflects decades of political mismanagement and corruption, while others emphasised that he is also a product of a flawed system.
Some users pointed to Nigeria’s political history as a contributing factor. Gerald (@GWRECKK) wrote:
“If OBJ had laid a legacy of free and fair elections, Tinubu would not have emerged today. I think that is why ẹ̀gbọ́n Dele referred to him as a victim of Nigeria.”
Adding to the conversation, Twitter user @NketOffia15092 suggested a new cautionary phrase for Nigerians, saying that instead of “May Nigeria never happen to us,” citizens should say: “May Tinubu not happen to us.”
The exchange has sparked widespread discussion online about governance, leadership, and the political direction of Nigeria. Social media continues to serve as a platform for citizens to critique leadership, debate national issues, and voice their frustrations over systemic failures.
