Social media commentator Imran Wakili has slammed the Bola Tinubu-led government over the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
He argued that the federal government lacks the moral and legal justification to keep Kanu in custody while the Katsina State Government moves to release 70 suspected terrorists under a peace deal.
Wakili’s criticism centers on what he described as an imbalance in the application of justice, questioning why a separatist leader remains detained while individuals of violent crimes are being freed in the name of peace negotiations.

The commentator made the remarks in a post on X, reacting to reports that the Katsina State Government had initiated steps to release the suspects.
According to the reports, the move is part of efforts to sustain peace agreements with armed groups operating across several local government areas of the state.

Wakili described the development as a glaring double standard, arguing that the government’s actions send conflicting signals about its commitment to justice, accountability, and the rule of law.
He further noted that the decision to release suspects accused of terrorism-related offences raises serious concerns about fairness, especially amid longstanding legal and political debates surrounding Kanu’s detention.
Wakili warned that such actions could weaken public confidence in the government’s handling of security and justice issues.
His comments come amid public backlash over a leaked letter indicating that the Katsina State Government sought judicial approval to facilitate the release.
While state officials have defended the move as a strategy that has helped secure the release of abducted persons and reduce violence, Wakili’s post has reignited online debate over Nigeria’s security approach and the unequal treatment of detainees.
