Protests: Nobody Distributed Rice to Me, It’s Not Tinubu’s Fault; He Inherited Bad Governance — Rep Member Tells Nigerians

Kolawole Akinlayo (APC-Ekiti), a legislator in the House of Representatives, has appealed to Nigerians to give Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu more time to address the country’s issues, emphasizing that Tinubu inherited a legacy of bad governance.

Speaking to journalists on Monday in Abuja, Akinlayo highlighted that the problems did not originate with Tinubu’s administration but have been longstanding.

He acknowledged the right of citizens to protest but urged them to be patient with the current government.

Akinlayo stated, “If you inherit a bad structure, it will take time to fix it. We need to be patient with the government in power.

Akinlayo urged the protesting youths on the street to shelve their protest, adding that Tinubu needed to consider the olive branch.

“I want the youth to consider the olive branch offered by the president for the youth to embrace dialogue with the government which is better than protest.

“Tinubu told us of the projects he has for the country, but bad governance led to the protest which is not the fault of the president,” he said.

Regarding the distribution of rice reported by Tinubu, Akinlayo clarified that he had not received any. He stated that while governors received rice, lawmakers were only given fertilizer, which he had already distributed to his constituency.

He added, “Nobody distribute rice to me, but the governors got rice, so we should be asking them. The lawmakers were only given a truck of fertilizer, which is 600,” said Mr Akinlayo. “I have gotten my own fertilizer and distributed it to my constituency, but I am not aware of any rice given to any member.”

He also stressed the importance of making realistic demands from the government, suggesting that calls for the pump price to be reversed to N157 per liter were impractical.
