2027: Eyebrows Raised as Tinubu Makes Fresh Appointments at INEC

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur as a National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing the North West zone.

Tukur’s appointment, announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to Tinubu on Information and Strategy, is subject to Senate confirmation.

Tukur, 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University in England, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University.

He began his career with INEC in 1999 as an assistant chief administrative officer and advanced to the role of Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics.

In addition to Tukur’s appointment, Tinubu has nominated lawyer Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, to fill the position left vacant after the passing of ‘Niyi Ijalaye in August.

Ibiyemi, 58, who is from Ilaje in Ondo State, is currently serving as INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Lagos.

She graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was called to the bar in 1988. Her nomination also awaits Senate approval.
