NLC/TUC: Tinubu to Send Unagreed Minimum Wage Bill to NASS Next Week

Barring any last-minute changes, Chief Bola Tinubu will transmit the New National Minimum Wage to the National Assembly next week.

This follows a scheduled meeting on Thursday between the former Lagos State Governor and the leadership of Organized Labour.

Tinubu had already discussed the minimum wage issue with Organized Labour leaders last Thursday.

The Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage submitted two separate figures to Tinubu due to disagreements among stakeholders.

The government team and the organized private sector proposed N62,000, while Organized Labour demanded N250,000.

Upon receiving the committee’s report, Tinubu promised to meet with relevant stakeholders to harmonize the figures before sending the executive bill to the National Assembly.

Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, presided over by Tinubu at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris confirmed that Tinubu will transmit the executive bill after the meeting with Organized Labour on Thursday.

Idris also mentioned that the executive will submit an amendment to the 2024 budget to the National Assembly.

This amendment will address the new minimum wage, among other considerations.
