Bola Tinubu has appointed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the Renewed Hope Ambassador at a time when Nigerians are reeling from worsening insecurity and mounting fear across communities.
The appointment comes ahead of the national rollout of the Federal Government’s Ward Development Programme, with Uzodimma also taking up the role of Director General for party outreach and mobilization.
The decision has sparked criticism among citizens who argue that Tinubu is prioritizing political messaging over the urgent task of tackling kidnappings, terrorist attacks, and general lawlessness.
Tinubu said Uzodimma would work with leaders of the All Progressives Congress and governors across the country to promote the administration’s achievements and strengthen internal cohesion.

The Imo governor, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, is expected to drive nationwide engagement efforts that are designed to expand support for Tinubu’s programs.

Tinubu’s directive includes ensuring that APC governors serve as Ambassadors of Hope and participate in a coordinated publicity effort that highlights government milestones.
Tinubu said Uzodimma and his colleagues must promote and “disseminate the party’s achievements and milestones since 2023,” describing it as a key part of building national understanding of the Renewed Hope agenda.
Tinubu listed economic indicators that he claimed reflect positive progress, including inflation declines, a stabilised exchange rate and an increase in foreign reserves, even as many Nigerians say these reported gains do not match lived experiences.
Tinubu also highlighted initiatives such as educational loans, passport processing and diversification into solid minerals as evidence of improved governance.
Citizens in several communities, however, continue to call for concrete action on safety and security rather than political appointments and promotional campaigns.
Tinubu told Uzodimma that he must ensure Nigerians fully understand the administration’s achievements, a statement many see as further proof that the government is prioritising perception management over national safety.
