Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has strongly criticized Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the broader political class, accusing them of prioritizing their interests over the welfare of Nigerians.
Ezekwesili expressed her concerns during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where she addressed the controversial purchase of a new presidential jet for Tinubu’s use.
The decision to acquire the new aircraft has sparked widespread outrage, particularly given the current economic hardship and widespread hunger affecting millions in the country. Many have questioned the timing and necessity of such a purchase amid growing poverty and economic instability.
Ezekwesili did not mince words in her critique, labeling the executive branch, the presidency, and the National Assembly as “bandits” against the Nigerian populace.
She stated, “The executive, the presidency, the National Assembly, I think they have decided that they are the bandits.
“The political class has decided that they are bandits against Nigerians. Because I do not see how it is feasible that the priority of a government that has this level of biting hunger in the land, this level of poverty where people are dropping into poverty per minute will consider the purchase of aircraft for the president.
“The construction of N20 billion homes for the vice president; the purchase of all kinds of funny looking cars and the fleet of the National Assembly members and the executive, what exactly is that?”
