Nationwide Protest: Tinubu Needs Peace to Achieve Mandate, He’s Already Addressing Issues — Says Youth Minister

Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Ibrahim, has called on youths to reconsider their planned 10-day protest starting on August 1, emphasizing that Chief Bola Tinubu requires peace to address the nation’s challenges and fulfill his mandate.

During a visit from the National Students Management Council (NSMC), led by Senior Special Assistant to the President, Sunday Asefon, in Abuja, Ibrahim stressed the importance of stability for progress.

She acknowledged the economic hardships but noted that these issues are not unique to Nigeria, citing the global economic impact of COVID-19.

She stated, ”Government is already addressing these issues. The economic hardships that we are facing today are not limited to Nigeria. Since COVID-19 struck, the global economy has not quite recovered.”

Ibrahim highlighted the critical role of students in national development and reiterated the government’s commitment to their welfare.

She pointed to the student loan scheme and the proposed youth development bank as key initiatives to support students and young entrepreneurs.

“The student loan scheme is one of the profound policies in that direction. The ministry will work with the council in mainstreaming issues of youth and students in the country,” she added.
