A nationwide protest is gaining traction across the North and other regions, aiming to highlight the citizens’ hardships under the leadership of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The protest, scheduled to begin from August 1-10, 2024, seeks to draw attention to the increasing economic challenges faced by citizens across all levels of government.
Since Tinubu announced the abolition of fuel subsidy in May 2023, the country has experienced significant economic hardship. Citizens have voiced concerns over the rising cost of living and other pressing issues.
On June 12, various civil society groups, including the Take It Back Movement, the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution, and the Socialist Workers League, organized protests against the surging cost of living, insecurity, and other national challenges. These groups are now supporting the upcoming nationwide protest.
The protest scheduled to take place in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has prompted a heightened state of alert among government officials and police forces.

However, Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has been actively campaigning for the August protest on his social media platforms.
Known for leading several protests in the country, Sowore has declared that the revolution will begin in August, insisting that “Nothing Can Stop An Idea Whose Time Has Come” #RevolutionNOW.
Similarly, a flyer making the rounds on social media titled: “End Bad Government in Nigeria 2024” by anonymous groups, ascribed the planned protest to 10 policies of the government, which according to them have imposed unexpected hardship on Nigerians.
