Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerian state governors to channel more investments into rural electrification, agriculture, poverty alleviation, and infrastructure to uplift the lives of citizens—particularly in rural areas.
Speaking at the 150th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) held Thursday at the State House Council Chambers in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized that focusing on rural development would significantly boost national recovery efforts.

The meeting also saw the formal endorsement of the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP)—a ward-based initiative aimed at spurring double-digit economic growth through targeted interventions in Nigeria’s 8,809 administrative wards. The strategy was presented by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and backed by the council as a tripartite effort involving federal, state, and local governments.

Tinubu encouraged governors to actively cooperate with the federal government on this vision. “We have to embrace mechanisation in agriculture, fight insecurity, and improve school enrolment through school feeding,” he stated.
Tinubu further directed NEC to establish a dedicated committee to fast-track the delivery of legacy infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry Super Highways. To further streamline implementation, he ordered the transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to the Presidency, ensuring smoother execution of priority national projects.
