JUST IN: Tinubu Seeks House of Reps Approval for N24Billion Refund to Nasarawa and Kebbi States for Airport Constructions

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the approval of the House of Representatives for a refund totaling N24 billion to the Nasarawa and Kebbi state governments.

This refund is for the construction of airports that the Federal Government has since taken over.

Tinubu’s request was communicated in a letter addressed to Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, which was read during a plenary session by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu. The letter detailed that over N15 billion is to be refunded to Kebbi State and N9 billion to Nasarawa State.

The funds were initially used by Kebbi State for the construction of the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi, and by Nasarawa State for the Lafia Cargo Airport.

Tinubu emphasized that aviation matters, including airports, fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government as outlined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Tinubu’s letter specified the refund amounts: a promissory note of N9,000,542,651.79 for Nasarawa State and N15,137,336,951.88 for Kebbi State.

Tinubu urged the House of Representatives to consider and approve the establishment of the promissory notes program to facilitate these refunds.
