Bola Tinubu has given his approval to the National Anthem Bill 2024, resulting in the reinstatement of the old national anthem, “Nigeria, we hail thee.”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed this during a joint session of the National Assembly commemorating the Silver Jubilee of Nigeria’s 4th Republic.

Akpabio clarified that the purpose of the gathering is primarily to introduce the new national anthem, noting that Tinubu will not deliver a speech as he is scheduled to depart for the launch of the Abuja metro line.

The Senate and the House of Representatives had previously passed the legislation to swap the national anthem from “Arise, O Compatriots” to “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” at separate sittings.

The old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”, composed when Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960, has replaced the “Arise, O Compatriots” anthem.
