Bola Tinubu has suspended Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, from her position with immediate effect.
Tinubu has further issued a directive to the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to initiate a comprehensive investigation into all financial transactions associated with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as any affiliated agencies.
This thorough inquiry aims to scrutinize every aspect of the financial dealings under the ministry’s purview.
In compliance with the suspension, Dr. Betta Edu is instructed to hand over her responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Additionally, Tinubu emphasizes the suspended Minister’s obligation to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities throughout the course of their inquiry.
Taking broader action to address systemic issues, Tinubu has convened a panel led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance. This panel is tasked with conducting a comprehensive diagnostic analysis of the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programs.
The overarching goal is to conclusively reform relevant institutions and programs, eliminating any institutional weaknesses. This effort is designed to exclusively benefit disadvantaged households and regain public confidence in the initiative.
These directives of Bola Tinubu take immediate effect.
