Nigerians Should Allow Tinubu to Rule for Eight Years Like Buhari – APC Chieftain

Uche Nwosu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Chief of Staff to the Imo State Government, has called for the South to be allowed to complete its eight-year presidential tenure.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday in Abuja, Mr. Nwosu argued that the South deserves the same opportunity just as the North completed its eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“It is unfair and unjust to say power should return to the north in 2027. I am not in support of that. I’m 100 per cent in support of the South to complete its eight years.

“We have President Bola Tinubu, who is from the south. So why should we, at this point in time, start talking about power returning to the north?

“Former President Buhari just finished his eight years. So, it is very justifiable that the south should finish its eight years too before we now talk about power shifting,” Mr Nwosu said.

Speaking on the calls for a power shift to the South-East, Mr. Nwosu urged the people of the region to allow President Tinubu to complete his tenure first.

Regarding his assessment of the Tinubu administration, Mr. Nwosu said it was too early to pass judgment, encouraging Nigerians to give the government more time.

He noted that Tinubu had already made notable strides in socio-economic and infrastructural development.

Mr. Nwosu emphasized that the president and his team were actively working to ease economic hardship, improve infrastructure, and ensure food security for Nigerians.

Commenting on efforts by opposition leaders including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, Mr. Nwosu said the move posed no threat to the APC.

“Coalition is good, but I don’t see them coming together because they all have their different ideas, personal interests and ambitions,” he said.

The APC chieftain called on both the federal and state governments to tackle the root causes of insecurity across the country.

Mr. Nwosu recommended deploying additional security personnel to regions facing significant security challenges.

Commenting on the wave of defections by politicians and public office holders to the ruling APC, Mr. Nwosu dismissed concerns that Nigeria was heading toward a one-party system.

“We all know that PDP is currently in crisis, with more than one national secretary. Also, if your party is in crisis, you cannot be talking about the party manifesto,” he said.
