The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has accused Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of wasting public funds to mobilize fictitious groups aimed at discrediting the upcoming #EndBadGovernance protests.
In a recent interview with ARISE TV, CISLAC Executive Director Auwal Musa Rafsanjani criticized the government’s efforts, suggesting that if the administration had implemented effective policies to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians, the protests would not be necessary.
Rafsanjani condemned the government’s actions, describing them as an unnecessary expenditure of public resources.
He stated, “The federal government is embarking on unnecessary waste of public money to be mobilising and recruiting faceless groups to say they are withdrawing from the protest.
“It’s not about mobilising the protest. In my opinion, if the government had been listening and coming up with policies and programmes that would alleviate the suffering Nigerians are going through, I don’t think people would want to protest.”
He stated that Nigerians are patient and reasonable and will listen if Mr Tinubu has a clear framework to address their challenges.
“The president has actually disgraced them by saying that he himself was a sponsor of protest. So for those that are citing religious connotations that it’s illegal or it’s haram or anti-Christianity, I think the president has already shamed them,” the activist added.
He emphasized that genuine government responsiveness to citizens’ needs could mitigate the need for protests.
