Chairperson of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said human traffickers are worse than drug barons, igniting a storm of reactions across social media platforms.
Dabiri-Erewa’s statement, following the incident of human trafficking where at least 10 underaged Nigerian girls were filmed narrating how they have been trafficked to Ghana for prostitution, has resonated deeply with netizens, who are expressing both agreement and concern over the gravity of the comparison.
In a post on X on Saturday, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa condemned human traffickers, advocating for them to be “named and shamed.”
She stated, “Honestly, the traffickers (Human traffickers) need to be named and shamed!
“They are worse than drug barons!! And as long as they are walking about freely, innocent young children will continue to be trafficked!” she added.
In response, some netizens have reacted to her tweet.
One of her followers on X, @idealist90, disagreed with her, saying, “Traffickers are not worse than drug barons. Both are not different. If you support a drug baron, you are not different from a trafficker himself.”
