Nigerian sprinter Tobi Amusan achieved a new African women’s indoor record in the 60 meters, posting a remarkable time of 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix held in Boston.
This accomplishment supersedes the prior record of 7.77 seconds, which was established in Kazakhstan during the Astana Indoor Meet in January.
Despite her record-breaking performance, Amusan secured second place in Boston. Tia Jones from the United States claimed the top spot with a time of 7.72 seconds, followed closely by Devynne Chalton from the Bahamas clocking in at 7.76 seconds.
Amusan had already demonstrated her prowess earlier in the season by surpassing the African record on January 27, eclipsing the previous mark set by her compatriot Gloria Alozie.
At the Astana Indoor Meet in Kazakhstan, Amusan set a new African women’s 60-meter hurdles indoor record with a time of 7.77 seconds, breaking Alozie’s longstanding continental record of 7.82 seconds set in 1999.
